Welcome to the Communities...

what is ,thin provion

Thin provisioned disk do not allocate all the space allocated to the VM in the VMFS volumes. For Eg When a VM is allocated with 10 Gb of space and only 5 GB is used by the OS only 5 GB would be consumed in the Datastore and it can grow till 10 GB

what's thick provision..

Thich Provisioned disk will allocated the full space on the datastore when the VM is assigened with the disk.. For Eg when a VM is assined with 10 GB disk and full 10 GB will be ustilized in datastore

Hello,

Think disk would grow as and when you add data, wherein the thick disk means that the disk is made available with the complete size.

For eg if you create a disk of 100 gb as thin then the disk that gets created uses only 10gb on the storage, when you add files of 20 gb in size the disk grows to 30gb in size.

Thick disk, if you add 100gb as thick then a disk of 100Gb is created on the storage. The size of the disk is 100Gb, this disk does not grow.
