copying network settings from ESX3.5 u4 to ESX 4.0 U2

Hi Guys

can you please suggest, If I will be able to copy Network settings/NICs info/vSwitches from 3.5 to 4.0? I will be clean installing 4.0 and wiping 3.5 on the servers and wondering if I can copy the switch settings etc and paste into new install ?.

I found the folowing link and not sure if this is still applicable?

Hello Ajay,

I have never tried below link across different ESX versions.

However, the easiest way is to take a print screen of your networking configuration of 3.5 U4 host. And re-create the network switches when you fresh install ESX 4.0 U2.

Although there is configuration backup utilities for 3.5, I am not sure restore will be successful for 4.0 U2.

Kindly consider awarding points if this info is useful.

If you have 2-3 hosts it's not a problem to re-create them manually.

In case of MANY hosts you can make clean installation and stay in Evaluation Mode + install new vCenter in Evaluation too. Evaluation equals Enterprise Plus for 60 days, so you'll be able to use Host Profiles. Make clean installation on one host, configure it proper way manually, create host profile from this host.

And then just apply host profile to all other hosts.
