change password policy in service console?

Hi guys...need some help , at my company we have a default password for esx boxes...with vsphere it wont accept my password because of a lenght/char policy?

Enter new password:

Weak password: not enough different characters or classes for this length.

passwd: Authentication token manipulation error

localhost[root] /etc/pam.d #

so...how to change that? i cant change the default password because of company policies...can anyone help?

Try "lchage -l root" on the console. It should show you the settings and let you manipulte some settings this.

Use "man pam_cracklib" and check for the options there. They must be added behind the appropriate line in "/etc/pam.d/system-auth".

Use caution when playing around with this. Maybe you better try that on a different uncritical host, first.
