Would Upgrade ESX affect vm located in the local storage ?

Hi, guys

We just have a plan to upgrade our ESX host from 3.5 to 4.1 by updated manager. But question is that we have some vm located in local storage of host . I would like to know whether the upgrade would affect these vm .Or would you help provide some conference for it ? Thanks a lot!

The upgrade is not supposed to affect VMs in a local datastore. Just back them up if you are worried and want to be extra careful.

Upgrades using Update Manager should fail upfront (without touching the host) in cases where VMFS cannot be preserved. So, there should not be any worries here.
