I have a blade server with 4 blades that I'm going to install Vsphere on. Do I need to install Esxi native on each blade and and 1 instance of vsphere? OR do I need to install Vsphere on each blade? I'm new to Vsphere and could not get a clear picture from the setup guide. I'd like to be able to control all the blades through the Vsphere, but I'm not sure how to accomplish it.
Please help!!
ESX, (that is a part of vSphere4) is an OS that you need to install somehow on your blades.
Many OEM:s (IBM, DELL, HP) can deliver ESXi preinstalled on the blades, if they are not preinstalled you need to install on local hdd or on a USB-stick.
You then control most functionality from vCenter-server that is an application running on Windows Server.
Best regards,
Linjo

So we need 4 licenses (1 for each blade) plus the Vsphere and Vcenter license?
ESX(i) is licensed by single CPU.
