Vmware 6.0 vmotion across vcenters

If i were to purchase 2 essential plus license and setup 2 vcenters to manage each clusters (3 hosts per cluster) ,... Am i able to vmotion VMs from clusterA to clusterB using Essential Plus license?

To do a vmotion you should have your VM to be the part of the cluster and data center.

Since one host can't be the part of two data center than how vmotion is possible .

Wow impressive question,

in my personal opinion you have the same limitation like in vcenter 5.x.

You cant join a VCenter to a enhanced linked mode due to license limitations.

Info from Doku:  Enhanced Linked mode requieres VCenter Standard and is not available in foundation or essentials.

So it will not work for you.

But it is not true that you cant vmotion accross cluster or vcenter. This limitation is gone since 6.0.

Hi,

I don't think that licensing is a constraint here. In vSphere 6 the vCenter Server/Datacenter boundaries are gone and you can move your VMs from one vCenter to another.

Have a quick look at this blog post on vMotion Enhancements.

vMotion across vCenter servers & Lond Distance vMotion only available in vSphere Enterprise plus license.

That's very true that in order to achieve it, I must have both the vCenter instances in Enhanced Linked mode, but along with that licenses boundaries very much apply.
