Vcenter 6.0 with external PSC to VCSA 6.5

Hi all,

Have 2 separate Vmware vcenter's running on windows 2012 svr with an external SQL 2014 databases, they are in ELM linked mode.

There is also an external PSC at each site running on a separate Windows 2012 SVR (using its own embedded db on box).

they are currently on V6.0.0 build 13638472 Essentials and below each is a small 3 node cluster of ESXI 6.0.0 Essentials 10719132 Gen 9 HP Hosts at each datacentre.

I would like to upgrade these to Esxi 6.7u3 vcsa in order to introduce some new hardware into the environment and to bring maintenance up.

I have checked the upgrade paths and best practices but I need a clarification around the following:

Moving these to VCSA using the migration option is supported form v6 to v6.7u3 however is it possible to migrate and combine the PSC into the VCSA at point of deployment/migration or do I need to first migrate both the vcenter and psc separately to separate appliances and then use consolidation to bring them into one?

Need to move to VCSA as windows is no longer supported after Vcenter 6.7u2.

Ideally after a step by step process to achieve the goal correctly rather than guessing but I have not found any KB's specific to the scenario.

Also assume I can do one after the other and don't have to do both vcenter's at the same time?

thanks,

Lee

I believe query here is to understand the upgrade path

Convergence is only available after 6.5u2 d.

  • So first upgrade your PSC to 6.7 psc using migration tool (temporary IP)
  • Then upgrade your VC to 6.7 vcsa using migration tool (temporary IP).

Later do the convergence from the GUI

Thanks Harry for the quick response, you are correct I am after the migration path for the scenario.

Just to confirm there is no way to consolidate during migration to make things a bit more streamlined?

So upgrade path is:

DC01 - PSC > 6.7 appliance temporary

DC02 - PSC > 6.7 appliance temporary

DC01 - VCENT > 6.7 Appliance using migration

DC02 - VCENT > 6.7 Appliance using migration

DC01 - PSC - run convergence tool to migrate psc into the VCSA deployed

DC02 - PSC - run convergence tool to migrate psc into the VCSA deployed

Just so I have my work lined up here correctly.

thanks,

Lee

Yes , there is no way to converge during the migration .

Steps are right

Convergence can be done once all the nodes are on 6.7 .
