This is a fresh vCenter6 Server installation. No hosts have been inventoried into this environment yet.

Set up the DB's as followed on an external SQL 2008 R2 box;

DB: VUM6.0

Login: VUM6 (local Security Login) on SQL 2008 R2 Server

DSN indicated TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!

vSphere Web Client indicated;

Database temporarily unavailable or has network problems.

Cause:

Database temporarily unavailable or has network problems.

Uninstalled Update Manager and reinstalled it fixed the issue. I think it was to do with the DSN settings during the installation! I couldn't update them via VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe.
