VMtools upgrade postpone

Hi there,

I need support in identifying if there is any risk in upgrading the VMtools and postponing them until a reboot is planned. I did find an old article https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2018/08/eliminate-the-windows-reboot-after-updating-vmware-tools.ht... which mentions some potential issues. It's this still the case, or is it a refreshing article for later versions of VMtools and ESXi 7?

We have a process running a powers shell and installing the tools to postpone them for a later reboot. Dows this impacts the present drivers on the VM client until the client is rebooted?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
