VMWare v8 and server compatibility

Hello everybody

My first post here

I work for a company that extensively uses VMWare 6.7 and we'll be going to v8 probably in Q1 / Q2 2023.

I've got a home lab on HP Proliant DL385p Gen 8 server running v6.7 to match my companies platform.  I'm using it to learn PowerCLI, trying to automate functions in a sandbox segregated from risk, deployments tools like Ansible etc.

My DL385p Gen8 is EOL since about 2016 or so, but it's more animal than I'll ever need - 2 x processors, 12 core each and 132GB RAM.  So clearly I don't need more server for a couple of instances of Ubuntu, pfSense etc - but I am concerned it won't take v8....  As anybody could predict, this server is not on an approved list for v8, however I don't know if that is a hard-stop or just that various functions won't work / not able to run to the best of their ability etc.  Does anybody have any insight on this ?
