Upgrading vCenter v5.1 to v5.1.0a

Hi,

Can anyone advise on the correct procedure to upgrade from v5.1 to v5.1.0a. I have looked at KB 2038472 and upgrade release notes but there seems to be little guidance, unless of course I haven't found the correct document. If I attempt an upgrade it wants to uninstall SSO which then comes up with a warning about not being able to login to vCenter under this instance. I was expecting it to just upgrade SSO then I could proceed with the other upgrades.

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Hi ,

How did you do installation of current vcenter 5.1, was it simple install, if  yes, then you have to upgrade it individually

If you have already installed or upgraded to vCenter Server 5.1, you cannot use the simple installation option to move to 5.1.0a. In this scenario you must upgrade in the following order:

  1. Upgrade vCenter Single Sign On

  2. Upgrade vCenter Inventory Service

  3. Upgrade vCenter Server

For further information, see Knowledge Base article 2038472.

Hi,

When I upgraded from v5.0 to v5.1i did not use the simple install. Does this mean I can use it now?  If not what is the best way to proceed?

Thanks
