Upgrading to vSphere from VI3

Hello Experts!

I am currnetly running the VI3 environment, and I want to upgrade to vSphere.

I have some new servers that I want to install vSphere on also.

Can I upgrade my vCenter server to sphere, then install vSphere on my new servers, and still manage my preexisting VI3 esx boxes using the new vCenter server that is running vSphere?

Thanks in advance!!!

I would create a new vCenter Server (VM) to manage all the hosts. You'll need to keep your current Virtual Center license server online until you're completely off of VI3. Once that's done, you can retire the old Virtual Center Server and license server.

You can manage both VI3 and vSphere hosts from the vCenter Server.

Which release of ESX are you currently running?

Once you have the old hosts managed by the vCenter Server, you can use Update Manager to upgrade/update them to vSphere/ESX/ESXi 4...

Fantastic!

I assumed it would be fine, but I just wanted to make sure.

I am running 3.5 U4 currently.

I was just concerned about licensing, going from a license file to a product code, and if it would manage that ok.

Thanks for all of the responses!
