Upgrading from esx 3.5 to vSphere 4

steps involved in upgrading from esx 3.5 to vsphere4

1) upgrade vcenter 4.0

backup old vcenter database

upgrade vsphere

upgrade update manager

upgrade upgrade converter

upgrade Guided consolidation

2)upgrade esx hosts to 4.0

backup esx configuration

enter maintenance mode (move vm's)

create baseline and attach to esx hosts in update manager (Service console VMDK

requires at least 8.4GB of available space in Esx hosts)

)

scan for updates on esx hosts and apply baseline

remediate and reboot...

Done

cleanup....

3) upgrade virtual machines

upgrade vmware tools

upgrade virtual hardware
