Upgrading Vmware 5.5 to 6.0 and Windows 2008R2 to 2012R2

I have a small enviroment with a vmware 5.5 update 3 with a single Vcenter and SSO on the same server. The server that host the vcenter is a Windows 2008R2.

I´m in charge of upgrading our vcenter to 6.0, but i would like to know if I can upgrade the SO to 2012r2  and Vcenter to 6.0 together in a new machine. I dont pretend to do a fresh install because I need the historic data.

I read the entire upgrade guide but I´m unsure if this is possible.

Thanks in advance.

Could you define "SO" and I might be able to help?

I think it was a typo and supposed to be OS as in operating system, but we are not supposed to assume. So fair question.

However, has there been any issues reported on installing vCenter server 6.x on Windows Server 2012 R2.  I have been having permissions issues using the Web Client and not through the VMware vSphere Client.  At first I was thinking it may be the memory in the system exactly 8gb (too cheap to upgrade) this is a testing lab.

If you take a look at the Interoperability matrix for upgrade path 5.5 U2 to 6.0 is supported directly: http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?#upgrade&solution=2

As for the OS upgrade 5.5U3 supports Server 2012 R2 and so does 6.0U2 so I would upgrade the OS then upgrade the VC afterwards. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=20912...

I hope this answers everything for you

And, I've not seen anything specifically causing issues with Windows Server 2012R2 and vCenter server 6.0
