Upgrade vSphere 5.5 SP2 to 6.0

Hi All,

In my lab environment I have 2 esxi hosts and one virtual vcenter server all running v5.5 sp2.

I am attempting to upgrade to v6.

I have upgraded one host which is all fine having put it in maintenance mode but now when I try to take it out of maintenance mode vCenter complains that it can't communicate with it.

Nothing has changed other than the upgrade, all ip addresses are as before.

Is this a compatibility issue between 5.5 and 6 or something else?

I can connect to the host using the viclient and all looks fine.

I took the host out of the cluster and now when I try and re-add it step 1 is fine in that host is found but on step 2 having entered credentials i get an error "cannot contact specified host".

I dont get it, please help.

Thanks,

Sean

As with all major upgrades from the past, you need to update the vCenter to 6.0 first before you upgrade any hosts. Only a 6.x vCenter can manage 6.x hosts. A 6.x vCenter can also manage older 5.x ESXi hosts, which is obviously necessary for upgrades.

The eax with 5.5.x can not communicate with the 6.0 vcenter . so you need to install the VC first and than esxi and then any other Solution. Vc->vum->esxi -> solution
