Upgrade time line question

Can I upgrade VC and all my ESX servers and then do the tools and hardware upgrades on my VM's during a maintenance window(s)? If I waited to upgrade the VM's, will it cause any problems with my working DRS/HA pools?

your upgrade plan is fully supported. You guest can run with older tools and hardware just fine. Just remember the upgrade steps are

1. vCenter

2. ESX(i)

3. VMware Guest Tools

4. Guest Virtual Hardware
