Upgrade required - "Unsupported hardware family: VMX09"

Hey guys,

Whilst recently trying to deploy from an OVF template I received the following error...

"This OVF package uses features that are not supported.

The OVF package requires unsupported hardware.

Details: Line 20L Unsupported hardware family 'VMX-09'.

We are currently running ESXi host version 5.0.0 2000308 upon our hosts and VMware VCenter Server version 5.0.0 build 913577.

I understand that the Virtual Hardware Version of the OVF is version 9 ( ESXi 5.1). Because we are running hardware version 8 (ESXi 5) the OVF isn't supported. I believe this to be the issue...

My question is, in order for this OVF to be supported do I need to update the ESXi hosts or the Vcenter version or both to 5.1?

Regards.

‌yyou could upgrade your version of ESX, which I recommend. Additionally you could use Vm Converter to attempt to downgrade the hardware version. Converter is a free tool. Also look at OVF tool to see if it has an option to edit the hardware version.

Hello,

ESXi version 5.1 is not supported in vCenter version 5.0

In order to upgrade the ESXi host you will need to first upgrade the vCenter server to version 5.1 (or later), otherwise I believe that the upgraded ESXi host will not be able to reconnect to the vCenter Server.
