Upgrade from Esxi 4.1 Hypervisor to vSphere 5 Essentials

I currently run the free hypervisor, version 4.1, on a single server with 3 VMs.

We would like to run the Acronis vmProtect wich doesn´t work on hypervisor. Therefor we plan to upgrade to vSphere 5 Essentials.

It is possible to update without installing the vCenter ?
