Upgrade License question

What we have:

vSphere 4.0 Standard + svMotion with an active SnS.

vMotion was bought a la carte with VI3 and upgraded to svMotion when we moved to vSphere.

Regarding the vSphere pricing guide I only can upgrade to 4.1 Advanced or Enterprise+ and I have to pay for it in either case.

My questions are:

1. Do we have to pay to go to 4.1?

2. Are there differences between our Standard and the Advanced version. I can't find any.

In addition to the features Anton listed, one difference is the number of supported "Cores per Processor". Standard = 6, Advanced = 12
