Hi,
I am looking at the upgrade procedure for the above... (I have Dell servers)...
VMware really should be much clearer about upgrade procedures for Embedded systems...
So I have ESXi Embedded on an SD card (3.5 U5)...
Looking at VMware's KB guide here:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102214...
- It seems to state I can simply use the update.zip file hosted by VMware and run the upgrade through VUM...
- Or I can simply reinstall using the 4.1 U1 ISO available from Dell
I am trying to understand the ramifications of using each method...
If I use the update.zip file will I then need to reinstall the OMA component? (The upgrade guide seems to state any third party pieces will not be available after the upgrade), but I keep my config (and performance stats in vCenter)... As well as this looking at the customisations under the Dell ESXi Embedded 4.1 U1 ISO it states that lots of drivers have been added... is the upgrade.zip therefore not even an option for me??
Or if I do the reinstall using Dell's 4.1 U1 ISO can I then simply re-apply my backup config taken from the 3.5 OS to restore all config and performance data (Or is this all lost?), and as far as vCenter is concerned this will be a new host?
