Upgrade ESX 3.5 to ESX 4.0 Update 1 - No network connectivity

Hi there,

I have an issue with a installation - with no solution yet. I wonder if there isn't anyone else who experienced this behaviour?

So - just for giving you an idea of the installation:

1x IBM Bladecenter H

4x HS21 Blade servers

3x HS22 Blade servers

HP EVA6400 Storage.

So, the plan for the upgrade were to use VMware Update Manager, create a host upgrade baseline, attach the ISO for ESX 4 update 1, and remediate the ESX 3.5 hosts.

And i was successful doing this for the HS21 Blade servers. however for the HS22 i am experiencing some interesting behaviour. The upgrade do complete, however there is no network connectivity any more.

Doing some research on the host i can verify that it has the proper vswif0 ip settings, esxcfg-nics shows my nics with status up for my nics.

I have tried to change the duplex settings for the NICs with same result.

The NIC vendor/type for the blades are as follows:

HS21: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-SX

HS22: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-SX

Apparently if i boot the old ESX 3.5 installation on the HS22, i have network connectivity - when i boot in ESX 4, i looses the network connectivity.

This sounds to me as a driver issue.

Any input for this would be higly appreciated.

Regards,

IMO
