It's done this twice now, each time giving the following error in /var/log/firstboot/vmafd-firstboot.py_10478_stderr.log:
2020-11-30T15:45:10.021Z Vdcsrp failed. Error[9234] - User invalid credential
Make sure the UPN and password are correct
The only kb I can find (https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2148064) mentions an entry in upgrade-source-requirements.log pertaining to my SSO password but no such error exists.
My SSO password is valid and correct (('m copying it from a text file to be sure); what else can be causing this pelase?

Hi Calum
Thank you for posting your query.
Please reset the SSO password for administrator@vsphere.local for vCenter to a supported password.
Please refer the below VMware Docs for details:

Hi Arun
Thanks for getting back to me. I changed administrator@vsphere.local to administrator@mydomain.com in Connect to Source Appliance - this is the username and password with which I normally connect to vSphere. Am I missing something else?
Calum
Hi Calum,
Thank you for the reply and the screenshot.
Please use administrator@mydomain.com to login to vCenter Web Client.
If you are able to login, it means you are using the right password.
However, while upgrading if the installer detects any unsupported character in the password as stated in the below URL, it usually throws the error "Vdcsrp failed. Error[9234] - User invalid credential"
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.psc.doc/GUID-B9C4409A-B053-40C3-96DE-232BB9...
Please change the SSO password for vCenter to something simple like 'VMware456!' and try the upgrade.
Please keep me posted on how it goes.
