Updating to Update 2

I am a newbie at this and am having a hard time trying to figure out how to update an esx 4.0 server. Where/How do I upload the .zip file to? and why do I get "the file does not exist, when I run the esxupdate"? I currently use putty to ssh into the server for maintenance (well trying to do maintenance) and I use the vsphere client to manage the VMs.
