Updating ESXi 4.0 to update 3 using Update manager

Hi All,

Is there any way i can upload a downloaded Update 3 zip file to my service center manager?

I need to update esxi 4.0 U2 to U3 and i have already downloaded U3 as a zip file from VMware Support site.

Esxi 4.0 U2 is connected to vCenter 4.0 and Update Manager 4.0, but i am now able to find any option to upload the zip file. When i searched i came to know that there is an option in 4.1, but couldnt find any info for 4.0

I have also tried to copy patches to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data" but no joy

I have installed U1 and U2 using vCli and just tring thorugh Update Manager this time.

Please let me know if any one has already used it.

you are looking for the zip for U3?  You can download it from http://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/download.portal  From there, open VUM go to the Configuration Tab--Patch Download Settings, click on the blue "Import Patches" hyperlink and import the zip.  From there you can create your baseline.

With that said, you should update vCenter to U3 first and also VUM.  You shouldn't have to download the zip, just create a host patch baseline, for "on or before" for 05/05/11, it should contain U3

Thanks a lot for helping me.

Yes i have downloaded the .zip file for U3 from vmware, but i am unable to see an import patch option in update manager on my vCenter server. Please find the screen shot attached, This is all that i can see on UM.

ESXi = ESXi 4.0 U2

vCenter = 4.0 (no updates installed on vCenter server, this is a lab setup and i have no internet access on vCenter server.)

Update Manager = 4.0 (installled from the same vCenter CD and not updated)

Hmm, no i am not upgrading my ESXi, just looking for an option to deploy the patch "upgrade-from-esxi4.0-4.0_update02.zip" using Update Manager.
