Update, upgrade, migrate or something else

Hi,

We have ESXi 5.5 free running for 2 Linux VM. Now we have planned renew our server and move VM´s to new server which has planned to run by Essentials 7. What could be the best way to move VM`s to new server. ?

Ciao

First of all, it is necessary to understand if it is possible to stop the VMs, if it is possible you can simply copy the VM files and import them into the new environment or export the VMs with OVF Tool. In both cases, the VMs must be turned off.

After importing the vm on the new environment you will need to update the vmware tools and the virtual hardware. Check that the linux versions of the VMs are compatible with ESXi 7.

- Shut down guest

- Export OVF Template in old host

- Debloy OVF Template in new host

- Upgrade Virtual HW

- Power on new guest

- Update WMware tools

ok, but after

- Debloy OVF Template in new host

I would do a power on the VM  to see if the Guest OS start and after shutdown and  brlow upgrade Virtual HW and at the end upgrade Vmware Tools
