Update manager tab missing in vSphere client

i am trying to upgrade ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.1

i downloaded upgrade-from-ESXi4.0-to-4.1.0-0.0.260247-release.zip

and now i want to use update manager to upgrade but i dont have the Update Manager tab.

how can i get this/install it?

did you install VUM? the installer is on the vCenter media under the vpx folder. If you have installed VUM, you need to download and install the plugin, which can be found in your Plug-Ins Menu.

Update Manager requires vCenter, so without vCenter you cannot use VUM. You can download a trial for 60 days.

i just finished upgrading ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.1

i didnt use the update manager. from the cli i was able to upgrade.
