The display resolution is not correct while we install ESX 4.1

Hi Sir,

I work at ASPEED Technology Inc. The server management chipset we developed (http://www.aspeedtech.com/products.php?fPath=20) integrate our own graphics chipset. We found an issue about display resolution while we try to install ESX 4.1 with our graphics adapter (see attachment). The ESX 4.1 installer will select the monitor's prefer mode with our graphics adapter. For example, if we attach 1280x1024 monitor, then ESX 4.1 installer will set to 1280x1024 16bpp modes through VESA function but the size of welcome picture is only 800x600. We tried with other graphics adapter such as ATI X700/SiS6326 and found ESX just set the resolution to 800x600 16bpp, so the welcome picture can be full on the monitor's screen. Besides, if we try to modify PCI's device/vendor ID of our graphics chips to ATI X700(0x5653_0x1002) or SiS6326(0x6326_0x1A03) with the same VBIOS except to modify the device/vendor ID to match ATI/SiS's ID in PCI Data Struct, then ESX 4.1 will set to 800x600 16bpp properly with our graphics adapter. It looks like the behavior of ESX 4.1 installer is different with different graphics chipset. Could anyone seniors give comment about it? If we hope our phenomenon could be as same as other graphics chipset such as ATI/SiS, then how should we do?

Regards,

Y.C. Chen
