Running a trial version of vSphere 4.0, trying to update to Update 1

I have a trial version of vSphere 4.0 running, but I want to update to Update 1. It's ESX 4.0.0 build-171294. After launching the Host Update Utility (not vCenter update), it tells me both patching and updating the host is not supported by the vSphere Host Update Utility.

Is there another method to update other than the Host Update Utility?

You cannot use the Host Update Tool to patch ESX.

Or you download the zip upgrade and you use esxupdate, or you use VUM.

Called VMWare support. Found out that the Host Update Utility only works when it's ESXi. Had to download the bundle, FTP it to the host and run the esxupdate utility to install.
