I recently attend a vSphere seminar and was told that VMware does not recommend running for extended period in mix 3.5 and 4.0 environment. I have been looking around but could not find any information regarding this. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. A majority of my servers only support 32bit, but I do have some that do vSphere 4.0 and would like to start taking advantage of the vSphere offering. Due to budget constraints, I do not think I will be upgrading the thirty or so servers that do not support vSphere anytime soon.
Thanks,
Ken
You won't get vSphere advantages in mixed cluster, but you can setup vSphere cluster and use it for extended period of time without any problems. The only thing you have to do for this - upgrade vCenter to 4.0.
Mixed 3.5/4.0 cluster is temporary solution.

At least I will be able to take advantage of the vSphere enhancements on the servers that I do upgrade correct?
Without any doubts. But I recommend to move all 4.0 server to another cluster. You'll be able to VMotion VMs even between cluster if you need.
