We are still at vSphere 5.0
one vcenter server
we have a stand alone web client server installed (not with the vcenter server)
We are thinking to upgrade to vSphere 5.5
Can we do simple install? So that sso, web client, inventory service, vcenter server reside at the same machine.
during the simple installation, will it be able to tell that we have already has a web client server remotely, and stopped the installation?
(We are thinking of dropping the stand alone web client server, what is the step to do so before, during, or after the installation?)
my thought is to unregistered the web client server from vcenter server, shut down the web client server; and then to do the simple install upgrade at the vcenter server.
need to know whether it is correct?
many thanks in advance!
Hi tai chan,
When you do a simple install the installation wizard will not detect the remote web client. It will only upgrade the components which are present on the particular system.
You can unregister the web client. Or power it off and then install a new web client on the vCenter server.
So to summarize, you can install a new web client on vCenter server and also upgrade the other components using individual installers.
Let me know if it cleared your doubt.
I will come back to you on this today
