Question on hardware limitations

Hello all,

I'm looking at replacing existing desktop test rig hardware (old winxp units w/1gb ram) with a virtualized solution (there's 4 current rigs, but moving to 😎

so I need to run a maximum 8 winxp units, with 1gb ram each, almost no drive activity, but a steady 100mb network load on each.

I'm looking at a system as follows;

- dual xeon 5650 (6 core, 12 thread)

- 32gb ram

- raid 5 15k scsi 3gbps drives

- separate intel server dual nic cards in 4 pci slots (for 8 nic cards)

question is will this be adequate to run 8 low-end test machines that do 100mb/s network load on each?

Welcome to the Forums - that is plenty - VMware as a sizing CPU recommendation suggest 11 virtual CPUs per core - so you will have resources to spare -
