Problem upgrading ESXi 3.5 to vSphere

When I use Host Update Utility to do the upgrading of ESXi 3.5 to 4.0, it said:

ERROR: Unsupported boot disk

The boot device layout on the host does not support upgrade.

When I use Update Manager, it said:

Failed to import upgrade.

Error was: Upgrade release not supported by this version of VMware vCenter Update Manager.

I

searched the forum and people advise upgrading VUM to 4.0u1. But I also

read that ESXi users do not upgrade vCenter to 4.0u1. So is it possible

to upgrade VUM to 4.0u1 without upgrading vCenter 4.0 to 4.0u1? Cause I

can't find VUM ISO at all and assume it must be included together with

vCenter ISO. Any solution?

Try upgrading to ESXi 40 before going to ESXi 4.0 update1. Download this version of ESXi 4.0.

I would wait until vmware release a fix for vCenter 4.0 U1 before upgrading to it.
