New Server Install issue

I have a new server and I am trying to install ESXi 6 but when I get to select the drive section I get this issue:

***glibc detected *** /bin/python: double free or corruption

=======Backtrace==================

/lib/libc.so6(+0x71951)[0x69842fd]

/lib/libparted-1.8.so.0(+0x192fd)[0x69842fd]

/lib/libparted-1.8.so.0((ped_device_read+0x15d)[0x697645d]

/lib/libparted-1.8.so.0(+0x58f17)[069c3f17]

[0x0]

=================Memory Map: ==================

Aborted

I have 7.25 TB drive in there and I have read that 2 years ago ESXi could not read anything over 2TB is that still true? If not does anyone know what my issue might be?

The 2TB disk is not a limitation anymore, take a look here: VMware KB:    Best practices to install or upgrade to VMware ESXi 6.0

ESXi 6.0 Booting Requirements

vSphere 6.0 supports booting ESXi hosts from the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). With UEFI, you can boot systems from hard drives, CD-ROM drives, USB media, or network. Provisioning with VMware Auto Deploy requires the legacy BIOS firmware and is not available with UEFI BIOS configurations.

Notes:

  • Changing the host boot type between legacy BIOS and UEFI is not supported after you install ESXi 6.0. Changing the boot type from legacy BIOS to UEFI after you install ESXi 6.0 might cause the host to fail to boot. The host displays an error message similar to:

    Not a VMware boot bank

  • ESXi can boot from a disk larger than 2 TB provided that the system firmware and the firmware on any add-in card that you are using supports it. Check your hardware documentation.

I tried switching from legacy to UEFI and I get the same error just trying to select the drive. I can not even get past selecting the drive. The RAID controller is supported...

It appears as though you are right but I am waiting on IXSystems and HGST to handle my trouble ticket to see what they can do about it.I will update when I know.

Hi,

looking on the specs of the internal DIsk:

Vendor/Model HGST HUC156030CS4200

Sector Format 4Kn
Capacity 278GB

I've found that VMware does not support Sector Format 4K: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=209160...

In the case I've opened to NEC I asked if there is a way to "downgrade" Sector Format to 512 to be compatible with VMware... hope to recieve news.
