This is more of an informational note than a question....
I have been upgrading Windows guests to the latest version of VMware Tools and Virutal Hardware and have noticed that after the hardware upgrade, Netbios is set to Default even though it was set to Disabled prior to the upgrade. I would imagine that this behavior is due to the fact that new hardware is found and Windows is setting the Default properties....but if they are able to keep IP address and DNS settings, you would think that it would also keep the Netbios setting.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Have you found a way around it other than manually editing network settings after upgrading the virtual hardware?
I think this issue wont turn up if the VMware tools are upgraded prior to the upgrade of virtual hardware.
Please see this KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015572.

I am using VMware Update Manager to do the upgrades, so I don't have any choice but to upgrade Tools first. However, I did find an interesting note at the bottom of the KB article you sent...see below:
The VMUpgradeHelper service does not save the following network settings:
•Network protocol connections
•WINS
•The NetBios setting
•Alternate configuration settings
•IP filtering
•Permitted IP protocols
•Permitted TCP ports
•Permitted UDP ports
So that answers, this issue is expected.
