Multiple errors on ESX / vCenter

Hello there,

We have 2x HP ProLiant DL380 G8 Servers which were running without any issues for a year now. We also have a virtual vCenter appliance running on one host to manage both hosts at once.

We had the problems below also a few months ago, but only on the vCenter. I reinstalled the whole vCenter appliance, beacuse the existing appliance was a bit missconfigured (no gateway, wrong DNS, etc.). All Erros were gone and backup was fine for a few months now.

Now the problems were back out of nowhere:

Originally the backup with Veeam made some problem, there was an error "Failed to log into NFC Server". This Error also occurs when we try to download the File from the storage of both ESX Hosts manually.
To fix this issue we found a VMWare KB entry which suggest to check some things via SSH. When we try to access the security profile settings on a host to start the SSH Client we get the following Errors on both ESX Hosts:

- Failed to call "HostImageConfigManager.QueryHostAccesptanceLevel" for Object "ha-image-config-manager"
- Failed to call "HostServiceSystem.Start" for Object "serviuceSystem"

The error also occurs if we try to download a file from the datastore directly from the esx host.

We also tried to reboot both servers via the vSphere Client to fix some temporary issues, but this also doesn't work. An error occurs with the message "A common system failure occurs" is shown on both servers.

My idea was to do an update on both hosts from esx 5.5 to esx 6 and also create a new vCenter 6 Appliance, hopping all works fine afterwards. Since we do not have that much experience with VMWare products I want to make sure that you also would recommend this step.

We'd be very glad if you could give us some inputs to our case.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Regards,

Claudio

FYI: We had to restart both servers directly through the esx console. After the reboot all errors are gone and backup works fine again. We're now going to update the firmware first and then second the ESX version to 6.

Maybe this is a help to someone with the same problem..
