Moving vCenter to new Datacentre

Hi all,

At the moment i have a v5.0 vCenter in the old datacentre and want to move to a v5.1 vCenter in the new datacentre.

Can you please provide me with assistance on the best way to do this?

Questions:

Do i recycle the vCenter Server DB and the vCenter Inventory Service DB?

If the plan is to build the new vCenter and then slowly migrate hosts over, will this mean i have to build new DB's?

I've never moved a vCenter before so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Hi,

Insofar as best practices the following covers various scenarios - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=202120...

Of course you do have the option to upgrade your existing instance and move it to your new data centre (unless of course there's downtime constraints with that approach).

Regards a new build and slowly migrating hosts over for a new VC instance that will require a new set of DB's. Best in either case leaving your existing vcenter infrastructure separate from the new build
