Move 32Bit Windows 2008 Standard Server on a ESXI 4.0.0 208167 box to new ESXI 5.1.0 1065491 box

Hi all ,

What is the best way to move a Windows 2008 server from an older 4.0.0 box to a new 5.1.0 Box Can I use Vcenter from the 5.1 download link and move it over?

Thanks in advance

If you have vCenter Server licensed, then you can connect the hosts (unless they are licensed with the free Hypervisor edition) and cold migrate the VMs.

If the hosts are licensed with the free Hypervisor edition your options are either copying the VM's folder over to the new host (using e.g. Veeam's FastSCP), using VMware Converter, exporting/importing the VM as an OVF or using Trilead's VM Explorer to backup/restore the VM.

They are the free ESXI Hypervisor so I will be using VM Converter, is there anything that I should be cautious on using this?

Thanks

This should work fine. Please remember that with using the converter, the target VM will get a new UUID and MAC address.
