License question related with vSphere upgrade from 5.5 to 6

I want to upgrade my environment to vSphere 5.5 to 6.

I have several ESXi servers and 1 vCenter server. Some ESXi servers serving live enviroment and some test environment.

I'd like to upgrade step by step so, that install new vSephere server and upgrade test environment ESXi servers to 6.0. and then run test environment some days.

Upgrade needs, that I need to convert licence keys to 6.0.

Can I run then simultaneously both environemts couple of days? (live environment using 5.5 licence keys and test environment using 6.0 keys converted from 5.5 keys)?

Some ESXi keys are used in several ESXi serves according to CPU sockets related with these keys.

believe me it does not work, it may seem to but you are piling up errors for later.   it would be a better option to build a vCenter 6 in eval mode and go that route.

Does your environment have a separate vCenter server for the Test/Dev boxes?

Dear Meelvi

Let me just put simple steps before you consider updating your infrastructure to vsphere 6

1) First we need to check for all our licenses and generate them before in hand.

2) We need to check for all other VMware solutions that are in use in the infra . eg vDP , SRM etc

3) Also check if these solutions will work fine with our new vsphere 6 using interoperability matrix :

kindly consider this these steps before you upgrade,

Kindly check vladan's blog :

I have only 1 vCenter server. It would be nice, if I can use temporarily 2 vCenter servers, until both environments (test and live) are upgraded.

I'd like to run test environment couple of days, before upgrade ESXi servers of live enviroment .

1 ESXi server of test enviroment is already installed to 6.0 using evaluation licence. Officially this is not in support matrix, but still works.

Meelvi running two vcenters would not be wise option .
You could just use VCSA in eval mode and then manage these hosts. You could test your applications on your new esxi 6.0 host

It does not work.

Why not deploy a evaluation mode of 6.0 vCenter on a new machine, test out your esxi 6.0 on it.
