License Assigment after expire of the evaluation license

after installation and upgrade to 8.0 we have overseen, that we had to assign the license to the vsphere server. The evaluation license has expired. however I am not able to assign the license as described under configuration menu. The license menue does not exist
Have you updated your license from vSphere 7 to 8? Also, if you have vCenter and your evaluation license has expired, you need to apply the license from inside the ESXi as it will get disconnected from vCenter.
Can you confirm that you're logged in to vCenter Server with a user that has the required permissions? In doubt, use the local administrator account (administrator@vsphere.local by default).
