Machine: Dell PowerEdge 1420 (Raid0 configured with SCSI 931GB x 2)
EXS 4.0 vShpere installation.
the setup starts on the system and after the selection of UI based installation, the next screen after extraction shows the Kernal Panic with the following reason
"CPUID is limited" - either remove the limit of CPUID or enable "Support NT4 OS"
I have seen the switches
nocheckCUPIDLimit
checkCUPIDLimit"false"
but i endup with the same error.
please suggest
I suspect you will not be able to install ESXi 4. It is not on the hardware compatibility list. You may want to try ESXi 3.5.
thanks but i want to go with the ESX 4.0. can you please help me with this?
Douwnload the CPU ID utility and run that. It will show you whether you have a supportable CPU for ESXi 4.x. ESXi 4.x require a 64bit CPU.
Make sure you have a supported CPU. I don't think you do. If you don't you will be limited to ESXi 3.5
You may experience other difficulties installing ESXi 3.5 since it is not on the hardware compatibility list for ANY version of ESX(i).
I take it back. Seems like you might be able to install 4.

i ll be trying this as soon as i reach office tomorrow.
but if the hardware is competible, the what is the solution of this problem anyway?
This seems to be the link to a solution. http://communities.vmware.com/message/1011871#1011871 but I would follow through the link I provided previously. There may be other issues.
