Is it recommended to upgrade VMware Vsphere 5.5 to Vsphere 6 now?

Hi Experts,

I have been learned to download VMware vsphere 6 still appears as beta version[VMware Vsphere Vcenter Server 6.0.0b]

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere/6_0

This new version got a very long beta period and validation so will expect very few new issues compared on what was happened with version 5.1

vSphere 6.0 supports only processors available after June (third quarter) 2006?

Can anyone please clarify when we can upgrade to Vsphere 6 on production environment. May be after next update release?

Hello there,

the best thing you could do is to update your test&dev / pre-production environment to vSphere 6 if you have any provided that you check first all of your servers' components in the VMware's Hardware Compatibility List. This way you can find out what would work out and what wouldn't - it is important to test out features like that first before migrating everything at once and running into issues later.

Also sometimes it is feasible to wait for Update 1 or Update 2 which would have many stability and performance fixes, etc. - it all depends on what support contract you have with VMware or if you are using a Free version where you'd troubleshoot issues on your own (or with the help of community forum) Smiley Happy

Dear Mannan

Let me just put simple steps before you consider updating your infrastructure to vsphere 6

1) First we need to check for all our licenses and generate them before in hand.

2) We need to check for all other VMware solutions that are in use in the infra . eg vDP , SRM etc

3) Also check if these solutions will work fine with our new vsphere 6 using interoperability matrix :

kindly consider this these steps before you upgrade,

Follow this upgrade path KB :

VMware KB: Upgrade paths for ESX or ESXi 2.x, 3.x, 4.x hosts
