Is it possible to virtualize Windows XP Home edition on Newer 64 bit OS using VMWare

We have older XP home edition 32 bit machines that operate older Shop Floor machinery.  If possible, we would like to virtualize the XP computers(guest) and

bring them up on a newer hardware platform 64 bit OS.    Is this possible using VMware products ?  If so, which products and where do I start ?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

b

First off, my condolences for being stuck with an old OS like that.

VMware can definitely help. If you are looking to run this on new hardware, VMware Workstation might be a good fit - you can see the compatibility list here: VMware Guest Operating System Installation Guide

You can find the VMware Workstation forum here: Workstation Pro

From a tecnhnical point of view, XP will run as a virtual machine. However, since you mentioned the home edition, make sure you have a valid license key. Often home editions are bundled with the hardware, and it may not be possible to re-activate such a license on virtual hardware. Regarding "... that operate older Shop Floor machinery ...", how does it do it. Is this machinery somehow connected to the XP hardware, or does it manage the machinery over the network?
