Is View 4 supported with vsphere 4.1

Hello,

Is View 4 supported with vsphere 4.1 ? Or do I need to wait to view 4.5 ?

I've found this but not very helpful :

http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_esxi41_vc41_rel_notes.html#whatsnew

vSphere 4.1 and VMware View Compatibility

To learn about vSphere configurations supported with VMware View

4.0.x, see the Product Support Center for VMware View.

Thank you,

vCenter Server 4.1 only runs on 64-bit Windows systems and View composer only on 32-bit systems.

So the answer to your question is you have to wait for View 4.5.

Today, I'm using view 4 with composer and vsphere 4.0u2 (both vcenter and esx) on a windows 2008 x64 server without problem.

Ok, it's not supported, but it's runnng fine.

So the question is : Can I upgrade vcenter and esx host to 4.1 ?

And if if won't use composer ?

Thank you,

I have Composer installed on a 64 bit vCenter server as you do. Like you said it was working fine. I have upgraded it to vCenter 4.1, and I am now updating my golden images for View. I will be recomposing my desktops in a few minutes. When I get it done I will post back to let you know. If everything goes well then I would say that vCenter 4.1 will work with View 4. So far everything seems OK, but I will post back with a definitive answer soon.

Seems I was wrong, Composer runs on 64-bit, however it is not supported for vSphere 4.1.

Please take a look at http://blogs.vmware.com/kb/2010/07/vmware-alert-vmware-view-composer-20x-is-not-supported-in-a-vsphe...

Man this is sad. Come on VMware. This is now the THIRD time you have screwed the View customers.

I have been running View Composer in my lab on W2K8 R2 for 3 months now along with vCenter 4. Not a single problem, until now. I also can confirm composing desktops does NOT work with a vCenter 4.1, but DOES work on vCenter 4 on W2K8 R2. I am assuming there were backend changes made to vSphere 4.1 that are not compatible with View 4 because it DID work fine with 2008R2. Sounds like someone forgot to test it OR this was planned to get users to upgrade to View 4.5.

Now we all have to wait for 4.5 to see the light of day.

I had figured that View 4 would not work with vSphere 4.1. It is currently unsupported on 64-bit OS with View 4 period, even though it works I have it up and running like that for couple of customer sites. I am hoping that with View 4.5 and 4.1 I will not have worry about anything durring the upgrade as I made both the 32 and 64 Bit ODBC conectors.

Thank you for all your reply, so I need to re split our cluster to have both product running : one cluster with esxi 4.1 and vcenter 4.1, and another with 4.0u2 and view 4.

Hope view 4.5 will arrive soon.

Sounds good, I recently did the same thing with client. I made one cluster U2 and other U1 since there was no link at that time that View 4 was supported on U2. It worked out just fine and the client is very happy that his Desktop and his server environment's are in 2 different clusters.
