Inventory label is IP instead of hostname.

Hi,

Installed ESX 4.0.0, 208167 succesfully. The inventory label is not seen as hostname but the IP of the system. Earlier in 3.5 ESX it was hostname shown as inventory label.

Hostname was entered perfectly at the time of installation.

Could anyone here please help me in changing the inventory label(display name) from IP to hostname.

Attaching here a snapshot which might help understand the issue.

Thanks,

-vk

Was the host added using FQDN?

Is the host in DNS/ forward and reverse?

When you are connecting to the host via the VI client, are you specifying the IP address or the hostname? If you specify the IP address, it will list the ESX host by the IP address in the inventory list instead of the hostname.
