Installing vSphere 5 on an Adaptec 2405 controller

I am trying to install ESXi 5.0.0 on a generic server that has an Adaptec 2405 RAID controller. The Adaptec 2405 is on the VMware HCL as supported by ESXi 5 out-of-the-box with drives included in the installer. The controller has 2 x 950 GB SATA HDDs connected & they are set up in RAID1. If I boot the server from WIndows or from an Ubuntu Live CD, they can see the disk as a single 950 GB HDD & I can partition & format it from both, so I know the RAID controller & HDDs are working.

When I try to install ESXi 5 I get to the section where I need to select a disk to install or upgrade & there are no storage devices listed. I have also downloaded & tried the vSphere 5 U1 CD & also don't see any storage device available.

I'm at a complete loss as to why this isn't working. Any clues?

I am also getting the same problem when I started implementing RAID controller. Any help will be much appreciated.
