Hi Guys
Any pitfalls or issues installing new vC Server 4.1 in a VM environment ? any recommendation by Vmware
I am aware of system hardware requirements for vC Server 4.1
thanks in adv
Hi,
Infact it's much better. have a read over here: http://www.vmwareinfo.com/2009/01/vmware-virtualcenter-as-virtual-machine.html
Create a VM with 2 vCPU and 3GB memory. Provide the disk space atleat 15GB wtihout VUM depot. Try to create it on Shared storage if possible, will provide you the vSphere features like HA, DRS, etc
Thanks
Nithin
I would say stick to the VMware recommendations for allocating resources to vCenter, you can refer the set up guide for vCenter 4.1 - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_esxi_i_vc_setup_guide.pdf. There is one section for installing vCenter in a virtual machine.
Also keep in mind that if you install the DB on the same VM, you will have to factor the DB needs also in addition to vCenter, in terms of RAM/Disk/CPU etc.
But one problem with vCenter in a VM could be that if the host goes down then your vCenter is gone too.

my question still remains " What if ESX host goes down without doing VMotion the VC server to other host like suspended or frozen state." ???????
pls advise
HA still functions without virtual center so if a host goes down including taking out VC, everything will come up on the other host (assuming it was configured correctly before)
