I am running Virtual Center 4.1 and when I go to the plugin manager to install the vCenter Client to install the vCenter Converter, I obtain the following error:
An internal error occurred in the vSPHERE client. Details: Remote name could not be resolved: "host name"
Obviously the installation fails.
The host name does not match the server name. How do I change
Hi,
When you install vCenter Converter (not the plugin), you have to choose how to connect to vCenter (by IP address or FQDN). In this point, if you are going to use FQDN, you have to have the DNS service well configured in order to resolve the FQDN of vCenter Server.
It's recommendable to set the hosts file of vCenter Server and ESX/ESXi hosts, in order to resolve the FQDN in case de DNS service fails.
Regards / Saludos

During the installation you will be asked to give the IP or Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). At that point make sure that you put in the FQDN (i.e. hostname.example.net). In order for this to work, you must make sure that you can resolve this name prior to doing the installation. Another best practice for this would be to add all hosts to the vCenter server host file. This is a failsafe in case DNS resolution fails at any time.
