Installing Adaptec CIM - noob help

Hi everyone,

I'm still new to ESXi and need some assistance.

Out of necessity I had to P2V a clients old server.  I currently have it running on my test machine while I prepare their dedicated ESXi server.

My supplier has built an Intel box with an Adaptec 2405 (on the HCL) with 2 x HDD as RAID1.

The Adaptec 2405 doesn't appear on the Hardware Healt Status and after trawling the newsgroups I managed to find a CIM, from Adaptec, for it; http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/speed/raid/storage_manager/cim_vmware_v7_00_18781_zip.htm.

I followed the instructions for installing it http://download.adaptec.com/pdfs/installation_guides/vmware_esxi_41_cim_remotearcconf_installation_g... (using the GUI method) installing it from a Windows VM on my test machine to the ESXi host that required it. (I don't have any VM's on the new server).

When I execute the command to check it, arcconf (with the required parameters), I get the following error:

     CIM Exception: Invalid namespace.

Please make sure maxRAID CLI provider is insatlled and running in ESX server.

I guess i want to know:

have I got the right CIM?

how do I resolve the error (bearing in mind I am still new to this)?

Any help greatly appreciated.

BTW, I hope I have posted in the correct group.

My first thought is that this is not for ESXi.  The portion that points me that direction is the error you received.  It is wanting to execute those commands and they are not installed on the host.

Hi James.

As I was writing my post, I thought the CIM may not have been for ESXi as you suggest.  On review of the installation instructions (referenced in my original post), it appears that this CIM is for ESXi 4.1.

I guess I am back to my original question regarding the error.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I figured it out.

The GUI is a remote agent - for checking the status.

I still have to install the CIM by following the instructions at step II:

II. To install ARCCONF provider on VMware ESXi 4.1

That is going to be my next challenge.
