Install vSphere 7/8 on xxx (Storage-Lun, Flashdrive, ??)

Hey,

want to know who you make your Installation of vSphere to what? What is at the moment the "Best way"? Are you make the Install on a Storage-Lun, or on Flashdrives, or what else are you using for big enviroments (our Hardware is Cisco UCS)? Want to know if the way we using (Stoarge-Lun) ist still what the most of you are using or if we have to change mind and try to use other things.

Andy

Installation of ESXi only on local Drives or SD Cards. Can be NVMe. PCIe, or standard SSD or HDD.

Something what is inside your ESXi. Something what can be really fast removed and repaired in case of need.

Agreed, the physical servers I have are all SSD drives internal or SD cards. In your Cisco UCS you should have local storage to install ESXi for the hosts.

Running local Disks means your Blades are personalised and you are loosing a lot of options you have in Bladecenters. If a Blade HW running funny, just bring down the Blade, change the Server-Profil to a new Blade, that's it. So the installation is only one part of best using Blades in a Bladecenter and we running a big number of ESXi Hosts during the last 15 years and all are running on Storage-Luns as a Boot-Lun. The point is how to automate this better/easier and here we are looking around for other solutions, or we get confirmed to still doing this in the next time.
