Install vCenter 5.5 and esxi 5.1 due to 3rd party app compatibility

Hi,

We're currently running vSphere 4.1 (vCenter 4.1 & ESXi 4.1) and are planning to migrate to either 5.1 or 5.5.  We would like to go directly to vCenter 5.5 and ESXi 5.5 but some of our 3rd party drivers (Xsigo Oracle drivers, NetApp stuff, etc.) may not be compatible with ESXi 5.5 at this time.

Is it a good idea to go with vCenter 5.5 and ESXi 5.1 hosts?  Is there any downside with this setup besides losing the new features in ESXi 5.5?  Going with vCenter 5.5 will allow us to skip the SSO complexity that's in vCenter 5.1.

Thanks.

You can choose to migrate vCenter to 5.5 and ESX to 5.1 and you should not have any issues except for compatibility of Update Manager  to upgrade ESX
